Book Review: How to Help Your Grieving Friend

How to Help Your Grieving Friend: What NOT to say
grieving friend

I just found the best book to help your grieving friend!

It’s the middle of the night. As often happens on this journey with grief, I have awakened and sleep does not return. So I read.
I chose Angie Clayton’s book, Peering into the Tunnel, which is about coming alongside your grieving friend and grieving with them. As I read, I am in total agreement with everything she says. I hear myself saying,

Yes, people please do this.
Oh goodness, please stop doing that.

I even say a loud Amen and an emphatic ‘Yes’!

EVERYONE needs to read this book.

Then read it again whenever someone near you has a loss. And I might add, we aren’t just talking about death of a loved one here. I have written to my friends often about how to respond and what to do when a friend or loved one becomes chronically ill. These principles are pretty much the same.

At first, there is an outpouring of love and support, but then suddenly it all stops and you are left desperately alone to pick up the pieces of your life. What you need is for your friends to be who they are and keep being good friends.

I can’t say enough, so I’ll let the author do it…

Please, please pick up a copy of this book.

What do you say when there’s nothing to say?
Do you feel tongue-tied, ill-equipped, or at a complete loss when you encounter someone who is grieving? All of us have experienced grief on some level, and we can equip ourselves to care for others who are grieving the impossible. This book shows us how to help the griever. Practical tips and poignant pain, often intermingled with joy, expressed throughout, told from the point of view of those in the tunnel of grief.
It’s my hope that we will equip ourselves and then be brave enough and willing enough to enter, reaching towards our grievers.

Purchase this book on the button below and please connect with Angie. She is getting ready to release a new book called, Chosen, in which I write a piece about how I came alongside my husband after losing his first wife.
