Reunions: The Whole Family Together

I’m writing on the prompt, WHOLE family inspired by Write 13 days challenge and the Five Minute Friday crew. We’ve almost made it to 31 days. You can see what we have written here and what others have written here.

I have 5 siblings.

Here’s a picture of our family maybe in 1966. back row: Mom, Doug, Dad Front Row: Marcy, Kandy, Mandy, Alex.  Too be added later a few years later .. LeAdam.

Now that we are all grown and have families of our own. We all live in a different state … Wisconsin, Texas, Georgia, Nebraska, New Jersey, and Kentucky. So you can imagine how difficult it is to get the whole family together at the same time.

In all truthfulness, I enjoy being with my siblings one or two at a time. My heightened senses caused by chronic pain has made being in a crowd a bit too much for me to handle. It’s really much more practical to see them a few at a time and I enjoy the company more that way.  When you put 6 siblings and their spouses, along with 30 plus grandchildren, it can get a little crazy, if you know what I mean.

The Whole Group seldom Gets Together

It has actually been ten years since the whole family was together. We all were together to celebrate Mom and Dad’s 50th anniversary. We all made it home to the farm for that one which was a good thing. Since then, the farm has been sold leaving no real “home” to go to.

Seriously, the whole family

Most of us made it to a family reunion in 2014. We had a grand time with many of our cousins. But our family pictures are missing my older brother because he couldn’t get away at the time. You know, we all had to travel to a different state. No one lives in Ohio anymore.

Anniversary Celebrations

In 2016, Mom and Dad are celebrated 60 years. They invited all their children and spouses on a cruise with them. This time, I was the one who didn’t make it. Chronic Illness keeps me from flying and cruising. We are working to make it .. the whole family .. in 2019. It looks like it might happen.

A Better Reunion to Come

But I’m looking forward to an even better homecoming. One that I’m hoping the whole family will make it to. That’s the Great Homecoming in the sky when Gabriel blows his trumpet and we all rise to meet the Lord in the air. Now that will be a great reunion.

Expecting great things!

  1. Having lots of siblings is so awesome. So much love flowing around. Learning how to live with others. My mother says the third child makes you a family. Before that one kid is moms, one kid is dads. I always wanted a large family. Thanks for coming by.
